Tips for switching to raw food
VOM aims to simplify dog food by offering a simple and straightforward product range. For a dog of normal weight and in good health, it makes little difference which variant you start with. ACTIVE Original is a great place to start for adult dogs, while growing puppies should be fed PUPPY and older dogs can begin with DIGESTIVE. Remember that in the case of medical conditions, any change of diet should always be discussed with a vet first.
A gentle start to raw food with meatballs
We have a wide range of different packaging to suit various sizes and needs. Meatballs are by far the easiest place to start; later on you can switch to the product that has a price and level of convenience that suits you. The meatballs are kept in the freezer, and before serving you take out exactly the amount you need.
From a taster to a full meal
For a smooth transition to a raw diet, we recommend a gradual introduction. On the first day, a small taste is sufficient, just enough that it doesn't replace any of the dog's usual food. Over the following weeks, you gradually increase the amount until the dog is only eating VOM. As a general rule of thumb, we find that younger dogs adapt quite quickly, whereas older dogs often need more time.
Measure dog food based on weight, size and activity.
Many people ask us how much VOM their dog should have. For us, without knowing your dog and the lifestyle you lead, it's impossible to give an exact amount. If you have an adult dog, you can start with 2% of its weight and adjust as you go if you notice it is gaining or losing weight. Small dogs generally need more than 2%, whereas large and inactive dogs can usually be given less.

Changes in stool
As our products have a very high digestibility and do not contain any unnecessary additives, your dog's stools will change. Some people find this alarming; the dog may be eating a lot, but very little is coming out the other end. What comes out is also drier and harder than you might be used to, and as a bonus, it is usually completely odourless. If you want to soften the stool, you can use Digestive or add some cooked or raw vegetables.
Benefits of raw food
More and more dog owners are realising that a raw food diet works. You can't generalise about every dog owner, but generally, owners report less dog odour, smaller and almost odourless faeces, better dental health, good muscle development and a dog that stays healthy for longer. Clean, nutritious and minimally processed food is an important part of a healthy diet, and this applies to dogs as well.
Good luck with switching to raw food.
