Nominate a true animal friend – five categories

Do you know someone who has an extra-large heart for animals, a passionate soul, a young person with an interest and love for animals, someone who takes great photos, or a true animal hero? You can nominate animal lovers, colleagues, yourself, and anyone who deserves to shine a little extra on a Saturday evening in February 2024.

Nominate a true animal lover, a colleague, or someone who is passionate about animal welfare or has a big heart for all animals! You can nominate in five categories. You can nominate several people in one category or one person in several categories.

1. Animal Photo of the Year
2. Spirit of the Year
3. Animal of the Year (up to 20 years)
4. Young Animal Lover
5. Honour Prize of the Year

Category 1:Dog photo of the year / animal photo of the year:

Do you have a picture of a dog that means a lot to you? Or another animal? What story is behind the picture?

In this category you can nominate a friend or you can submit your own picture. The picture is judged on these criteria:

• Motive
• mood / feeling
• Story (Please tell us the story behind the picture. Why/what does this picture mean to you?)
• Image quality

The photo must have been taken by you or the person being nominated. The person being nominated must consent to the nomination. The photo must be able to be posted on social media and used on our blog and website in connection with the competition.

The picture is attached to the email as a high-resolution attachment.

Category 2:Volunteer of the Year

All work with animals involves countless hours of effort. This could be as a community worker, a competitor, a volunteer with a visiting dog service, etc., working for animal welfare in one of the country's many organisations, or helping out at a working bee for the dog club; instructor, holding training sessions and motivating other club members on a voluntary basis, one can be a walking buddy or have contributed to ensuring that owners and animals in the local area have access to important benefits and experiences.

The person nominated must consent to the nomination. The story must be able to be published on social media and used in a blog and on our website in connection with the competition.

Category 3:Animal Hero of the Year

(it can be either a working or a family dog that has done something extraordinary)

Many dogs do invaluable work. This can include guide dogs, visiting dogs, reading dogs, therapy dogs, etc. The category also includes rescue dogs, search dogs, and dogs serving in the police, customs, defence forces, or prison service. We extend the term 'working dog' to all dogs that perform a community service, large or small. The category 'Animal Hero of the Year' can include an animal that has had a great significance to someone and has contributed to their coping, joy of life, or an important friendship.

We are also opening it up to other types of animals, such as horses, cats, etc., to do a community service, and the jury is open to other species being included in the nomination.

The person nominated must consent to the nomination. The story must be able to be published on social media and used in a blog and on our website in connection with the competition.

Category 4:Young animal lovers under 20 years old

(it can be either a working or a family dog that has done something extraordinary)

Good sportsmanship, a good role model, etc. In this category, top podium finishes are not necessarily what count, but the relationship with and interest in animals. Here, you can nominate someone "because of" or "despite". The Young Animal Lover of the Year will be the person who has touched, inspired, motivated and put the animal in the spotlight. It could also be someone who spends a lot of time in a stable or barn, walks all the neighbourhood dogs, feeds the small birds through the winter, or shows a great commitment to animals.

The nominee must consent to the nomination. The justification must be able to be published on social media and used in a blog and on our website in connection with the competition.

Upper age limit: Nominees may turn 20 during 2023.

Category 5:Honour Prize of the Year

(it can be either a working or a family dog that has done something extraordinary)

This category is open. Here you can nominate someone who has stepped forward and made a difference in dog and/or animal training, in educational work, and has left their mark on the animal world. Working for better animal health, animal welfare, breeding, training, to name a few suggestions.

The person nominated must consent to the nomination. The story must be able to be published on social media and used in a blog and on our website in connection with the competition.
