Robert Sørlie "The King of Femund"«

Robert had a pleasant coffee chat with us at VOM during what is otherwise a busy time for a dog driver. In the interview, he speaks openly about his extensive career, his passion for the dogs and the sport, what motivates him, and his preparations for the upcoming Femundløpet and the World Championships in Røros.

His mushing career began over 50 years ago and he is Norway's most successful long-distance musher. His achievements are numerous! He has competed in the Iditarod 6 times, the world's longest and toughest dog sled race, and won twice, in 2003 and 2005.

Next week, the Femundsløpet celebrates its 35th anniversary, and Robert will be starting for the 35th time. He has started and completed every race that has been held. He has won the race a total of 14 times – the first time in 1990 and most recently last year, in 2024. It's no coincidence that Robert is popularly known as 'The King of the Femundsløpet'. It's impressive and absolutely incredible!

A few weeks ago, in between training and preparations for the upcoming Femundsläpet/World Championships in Røros, we had a visit from Robert here in Trøgstad. It was a pleasant chat with our employee, Asbjørn Kokvik, over a good cup of coffee. Here he shares moments from his long career, his passion for the dogs and the sport he practises. With good humour and a twinkle in his eye, the conversation provides a genuine and honest insight into what it takes to achieve the goals he sets for himself and what motivates him.

Robert is regarded as part of the VOM family. ❤️ We have collaborated and supported each other since VOM first saw the light of day 25 years ago.
We are, of course, proud to have Robert on the team and, above all, grateful for the trust.
