Femund Race

– winter's most beautiful fairy tale

Femundløpet is one of Europe's largest and most traditional long-distance dog sled races, with a start and finish in the historic town of Røros. Every year, dog sled drivers from all over the world gather to take part in the race, which goes through spectacular mountain areas and seven municipalities in Trøndelag and Innlandet.

The race is open to both experienced drivers and beginners – and is known for its inclusive and professional organisation. Spectators can follow the race along parts of the course and at the checkpoints, where small folk festivals are held, run by local volunteers.

Femundløpet is more than a competition – it is a grassroots movement that builds community, creates tourism and recruits new people to the sport.

«As part of our commitment to animal welfare and high quality, Femundløpet works closely with VOM and Hundemat – a leading supplier of nutrition for sled dogs. This helps to ensure that the dogs receive optimal feeding before, during and after the race.».
