Robert Sørlie

Robert Sørlie is considered part of the 'VOM family'. We have collaborated and supported each other since our humble beginnings in Trøgstad in 2002. Robert is Norway's most successful musher in long-distance sled dog racing. He has always been a devotee of raw food.

«"Without the right diet, the teams throughout the ages would never have performed as well as they have," says Robert. "Or rather, they would never have managed the trials they have been put through if the food had not been nutritious and rich in both proteins, fat and minerals. Like us humans, all dogs, not just sled dogs, regardless of size, breed or purpose, deserve a proper diet," he emphasises. VOM will be on the menu for as long as he has dogs.

He started dog sledding as far back as 1970. In 1992 he became Norwegian champion over the middle distance and in 1993 he was awarded the King's Cup when he won the national long-distance championship. He also became Norwegian champion over the long distance in 1995.

Robert competed in the Femundløpet for the very first time in 1990, and in the Finnmarksløpet for the first time in 1995. In total, he has amassed thirteen victories in the Femundsløpet and three in the Finnmarksløpet. It is no coincidence that Robert is popularly known as "The King of the Femundsløpet.".

In 2002, he made his debut by finishing ninth in the Iditarod, the world's longest and toughest dog sled race (approx. 1600 km), and with that performance became the best 'rookie' that year.

Already the following year, in 2003, he won the entire race! He repeated this feat in 2005 as well.
It took a full 15 years before anyone from outside the USA won the Iditarod. All in all, he has competed in well over 50 dog sled races. His achievements are numerous!

Robert started as a firefighter at Oslo Airport Gardermoen in 2020, but that hasn't slowed him down. He is now a full-time dog driver, has just under 30 dogs in his kennel and spends a lot of his time training them. We have a feeling that Robert hasn't run his last dog sled race. ☺

Vom and Hundemat is proud to have Robert on Team VOM.
